“Interpretable AI for Precision Histopathology”

Speaker: Professor Nasir Rajpoot

Professor of Computational Pathology & Director, Tissue Image Analytics (TIA) Centre, University of Warwick, UK

About this talk

The rise of digital health has made vast patient data sets increasingly accessible. These datasets are highly valuable for the application of deep learning to identify existing and discover new digital biomarkers. These biomarkers are crucial for diagnosing diseases, predicting patient outcomes and predicting the efficacy of treatments. This talk will explore key challenges and prospects in the emerging area of computational pathology, with a focus on harnessing artificial intelligence and machine learning for early detection and tailored therapy of cancer.

About the Speaker

Nasir Rajpoot is the GSK Professor of Computational Pathology and the founding Director of the Tissue Image Analytics (TIA) Centre in the Computer Science department at the University of Warwick. Prior to his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Warwick (UK) in 2001, he completed his postgraduate training from PIEAS (Pakistan) and Yale University (USA). His current research focus is on the research and development of AI and machine learning algorithms for the study of histological and multi-omic markers, aimed at early detection, risk stratification and personalised treatment of cancer.

Prof Rajpoot has been active in the Digital & Computational Pathology (DCP) community for over two decades now. He has published over 350 research papers in top journals and conferences in the area and has delivered over 100 keynote and invited talks. He is a co-founder and the Chief Scientific Officer of Histofy, a spinout from his group at Warwick. He has been a Wolfson Fellow at the UK Royal Society and a Turing Fellow at the Alan Turing Institute in London, the national institute of data science and AI in the UK. He has served as a co-Director of £15m PathLAKE, a national Centre of Excellence (CoE) on AI in pathology in the UK, and as the President of European Congress of Digital Pathology (ECDP) in 2019.
