Maxwell Centre

Q. What are the Maxwell Centre aims?

The aim is to increase levels of academia-industry engagement between University of Cambridge and external partners interested in collaborating with us on research in Physical Sciences and Technology. We have outlined our full vision here.

Q. How can my company get engaged with the Maxwell Centre?

If you are interested in working together with Cambridge researchers on fundamental problems of relevance to your business, please get in touch with our liaison team. We will arrange a call or a meeting to discuss research areas of mutual interest and take it from there.

We can offer a variety of interactions, ranging from events to company residence in the Maxwell Centre, as a fully embeded member of our research community.

Q. How big is the Maxwell Centre?

The state-of-the-art Maxwell building is designed to host over 260 people, over three floors of office and interaction space, with additional floor commited entirely to laboratory facilities. Maxwell Centre programme extends beyond this building alone and covers facilities and research activities committed to the Maxwell Centre vision throughout the Schools of the Physical Sciences and Technology in Cambridge.

Q. Are there shared facilities we could access for our research?

Yes. The Maxwell Centre provides a way in to collaborative research and this includes shared access to our facilities. Please get in touch to discuss your requirements. Ever expanding list of facilities accessible in this way, including the Henry Royce Institute facilities, and we can help broker new connections where there is demand.

Q. Can my company rent office/lab space in the Maxwell Centre?

No. The Maxwell Centre is a part of the University of Cambridge research base and we do not offer rental space here for companies who simply wish to expland their footprint and are not interested in collaborative work. Presence in the Maxwell Centre is contingent on establishing a working interaction with the university research. However, if you are interested in developing a new relationship with the university we can help facilitate that and it could lead to a co-location in the Maxwell Centre.

Q. I would like to hear about relevant activities, news and opportunities - what are the options?

Maxwell programme runs a monthly e-newsletter with selected news, events and opportunities we deem to be of relevance to our external audiences. To subscribe to this newsletter please email engagement-coordinator@maxwell.cam.ac.uk

Feel free to also follow us on Twitter:@Maxwell_Centre

Q. I would like to stay in regular contact - how can this be arranged?

We can offer hot-desking presence in the building to accommodate new and growing interactions with external partners. This model can be also used to maintain a regular contact with University research, when there is no need to establish a more permanent presence in the building. The major benefit of this model is a possibility to become part-time embedded in the Maxwell Community: build relationships, understanding of each others aims, and hold face-to-face meetings with researchers, also allowing for serendipity to happen - through encounters that occur simply by being in the right place at the right time. To discuss the possible arrangements for hot-desking access please get in touch with our liaison team.
