Our mission

Maxwell Centre acts as a convener, facilitator, knowledge broker and a catalyst for meaningful partnerships that jointly tackle grand challenges through cutting-edge research, new knowledge generation and knowledge exchange, training and objective influencing.

Our values

Maxwell Centre is committed to support meaningful partnerships based on: responsible research and innovation, fostering diversity, recognition of mutual complementarity of discovery science and downstream applications, open access to trustworthy expertise, and commitment to delivering positive impacts on the environment and humankind.

Strategic focus areas for 2019-22

Based on a systematic assessment of progress made since 2016 launch, membership of Maxwell community and stakeholders, as well as the broader internal and external environment, the Maxwell Centre programme will now focus on two areas which reached a critical mass of activity and opportunity, and where our proactive support can add most value:

ZERO CARBON

Our core focus area is supporting delivery of Zero Carbon future. We have partnered with the University's Cambridge Zero initiative, as well as work with the Energy Transitions@Cambridge IRC and several other organisations and initiatives, to support research partnerships paving way to carbon neutral future for everyone.

SCI-TECH-MED

The second focus is on translation of science and technology to medicine and health. In this arena Maxwell Centre leads the West Cambridge Hub, and the med-tech stream of the Connect: Health Tech University Enterprise Zone, announced in 2019. We have partnered with the Office for Translational Research, Cambridge University Health Partners as well as the Cambridge Academy of Therapeutic Sciences and the Milner Institute (who lead the South Hub of the UEZ and its Therapeutics stream). The third theme of the UEZ is digital health - spanning the sci-tech-med space.
