The Royce Solar Suite is an all-in-one characterisation facility for photovoltaic devices.

The Suite consists of:

  • Cicci custom-built Arkeo J-V measurement setup double-equipped with a SunbrickTM Large Area AAA LED Solar Simulator and an Enlitech Xe short-arc lamp SS-XRC Solar Simulator
  • Enlitech QE-R Quantum Efficiency Measurement System
  • Cicci custom-built light-soak module for a broad spectrum of stability protocols(ISOS-D(Dark), ISOS-V(Voltage bias), ISOS-L(Light), ISOS-T(Temperature) and ISOS-LC(Light cycling), ISOS-LT(Solar-thermal cycling) and all corresponding sub-protocols including humidity control)

The sample holder (measurement stage) is designed as a universal air-tight carrier in the Suite, where the measurements from J-V, EQE, and stability testing can be conducted seamlessly and without breaking inert condition when pre-filled with nitrogen. The sample holder configuration is readily customisable upon consultation with the facility manager and the respective companies.

The J-V measurement setup can simultaneously read from up to 32 channels(8 pixels per device, up to 4 devices), and Enlitech QE-R is equipped with a custom pixel-switcher for back-to-back measurements across 32 channels. The light-soak module has a capacity of simultaneous measurement of 64 channels(8 pixels per device) and 4 sample holders(4 different stability/light-soaking conditions).

An array of 365, 530, 730, and 930nm LED Thorlabs mounted lamps allows illumination of different bandgaps of sub-cells in a tandem architecture, serving as an expanded characterisation kit by light- and voltage-bias(in QE-R) of tandem devices.

If your research interests in photovoltaics can utilise the extensive photovoltaics characterisation capabilities of the Royce Solar Suite, please contact the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology or the Facility Manager Strankslab manager (strankslab-manager@ceb.cam.ac.uk).
